Hey there fashionistas, its Nikki here! I know, it’s been a while hasn’t it? And you’re probably wondering what took me so long to write my next blog. Anyways, need not worry because I’m back J
Ok, so you’re probably wondering, “What is she going to write about this time?” Well, that’s actually a pretty good question because today’s blog topic is Fashion 101.
Fashion 101 eh? Yes, you read it right! As some of you guys might know or not know, I’m actually a Fashion major student, so I’m currently taking fashion related classes & so today I decided to take all of you with me for a little Fashion class 101.
As consumers, we tend to become more conscious and attentive to what we buy. May it be with the packaging, quality, design, color and whatever else we tend to observe. However, some of us don’t really know what goes on in the “fashion world.” I mean, aside from following (or not) the trends, we don’t really know much about anything else, like how fast trends change or the difference between a trend & a fad or what’s a classic look and what isn’t?
So for starters, here are some terminologies & examples that you need to know, if you didn’t know already ;)
Trend: A direction on which fashion is moving. (how fast/slow & where it’s heading)
- Who sets these so called “Fashion Trends?”
- Individuals (like you) then the Designers & Fashion magazine editors find their inspiration on that. (like I said on my previous post, “fashion is evolutionary, not revolutionary” meaning fashion is just like a huge circle. Over time, we find our inspiration through something that has already been done & just reuse it.)
Fad: A style that suddenly sweeps into popularity but disappears quickly as it arrives.

1.) BUMPITS
(To be honest, I have purchased & used these. However, it’s a complete fail for me. No one beats the good ol’ teasing & hair spray if you really want that nice voluminous bump)

2.) BARE-MIDRIFF/ BRITNEY SPEARS
(I’m not a hater, it’s just my opinion)
Classic: A style that remains in general fashion for an extended period of time.
1.) CHANEL SUITS

Before

After
(Chanel is one of my favorite designers, because she has made her suits like her signature. From then till now, women are still wearing Chanel suits/ Chanel-inspired suits which I believe show both femininity & female empowerment.)
2.) RED LIPSTICK

Before

After
(From Marilyn Monroe to Gwen Stefani, a red lipstick just screams CLASSIC!)
Regardless whether we know these or not, it is still important that we stick to our own sense of fashion because neither a fashion magazine nor a celebrity can dictate you on how you should look like. I believe that each of us have our own personal taste when it comes to fashion.
Aside from this post, I would also like to address my sincere gratitude to those who have read and supported both my Mode-5 blogs & my personal fashion blog. Also, I would like to thank those who have emailed us some questions-- Here are my answers:
1. Karen T: Thank you for the suggestions, but I have a question about the Evian. Is it a setting spray, or water?
- The Evian Facial Spray is a multipurpose spray that can be used as a setting spray, toner, facial mist, etc.
2. Angel P: is there anyway to disguise cellulite if you want to go to like the beach?
- It really depends where the cellulite is located. But you can try to draw attention on the different parts of your body so people would concentrate on that rather than the cellulite. Also, by using a tanning lotion or some sort, it can give an illusion of a more toned & slimmer look. However, these are just temporary! If you want to get rid of cellulite all in all, you must try to exercise & eat healthily.
3. Sienna: I cant wear bright lipstick, it gets on my teeth and looks messy. how do i prevent that, thank you.
- I understand that not all lipstick shades may match our skin tone, but don’t be scared to try because you’ll never know, some may work for you & some shades may not. I think the safest shade to try is maybe a coral one because it’s not too bright or too dark & it still screams out SUMMER! Also, you might want to avoid pearl or frost finish lipsticks because they tend to bleed around your lips, making it messy. So, the safest way to go about it might be a matte finish, coral shade lipstick J And lastly, here’s a little trick that I want to share with you to prevent lipstick from getting on your teeth. (Instead of heavily applying the lipstick, try a dabbing application instead. – you can even control the amount you want on your lips. After putting on the lipstick, make a “kissy” face & stick your index finger in your mouth about half way then gently pull it out. By doing so, the excess lipstick that’s supposed to go on your teeth, then goes on your index finger)
Thank you for all your questions! I enjoyed answering each one of them with the best of my abilities.
